Florida tourism

Florida tourism was a place of visit for wealthy and popular people as they only could afford. People who went on tourism stayed and started business in Florida such that they got settled. One such person is Henry S. Flagler who loved this sunshine state from the time he visited Florida in 1883. Right from the year of his visit, he started to invest in building hotels as well as railroads in Florida. As Florida grew, the railroads also became well developed and it became easier to travel to Florida. The year 1890 brought a remarkable change as the railways were easily accessible making traveling to Florida very simple even form New York.

Florida tourism augmented after the network of railways and the early 1900s saw thousands of tourists coming to Florida. They came to rest in warm weather, stay in hotels, enjoy natural beauty and even came to restore healthy and cure illnesses. Wealthy people such as Henry Ford, Thomas Edison and Harriet Beecher Stowe constructed winter homes and visited for months in Florida. Moreover, the automobile invention made traveling easier for tourists and enhanced Florida tourism. Besides, as the cars were less expensive, people had sufficient leisure time to go on vacations. Though, the resorts and hotels were expensive, travelers carried their beds as well as food and slept in the cars.

The Florida tourism saw a constant upsurge in the increase in the travelers. The facility of sleeping in their own cars and having foods from tin cans became popular to the extent that these tourists were called as tin can tourists. Later, 1930s saw a tremendous change as airlines opened and this paved way for more tourists and Florida tourism. The airports were constructed in important cities thereby making travel comfortable for tourists to travel to and from Florida. Slowly, the tourist industry became the biggest income source for Florida.

Florida tourism is the main attraction as it has miles of sandy beaches, panthers, birds, coral reefs, sport fishing, forests in the national parks, and various activities such as hiking, fishing, swimming and boating. The theme parks, the Disney Magic Kingdom, the MGM movie studio, the Animal Kingdom, the Islands of Adventure, the Epcot centre and the Camp wilderness has encouraged tourism in this state. Tourism is the important factor and supports various businesses and is driving the economy of Florida. This being the main source of income, more facilities are being made to facilitate the tourists.
